Airlie Red Flesh Apple. First Harvest. 10.5.17

Last year I picked up some scion of "Arlie Red Flesh" apple at the Home Orchard Society scion exchange.  It took, grew rapidly, and there are a few apples on that branch.  This was my first one, ever.  Cool to look at, slightly tart, sweet, pretty good tasting apple.   Others have re-named and trademarked this apple as "Hidden Rose", but it is not patented.

Lots of people say Arlie's red flesh, but it's actually "Airlie's" named after the town (or what used to be a town) about 15 miles from my house here in the Central Willamette Valley. Hudson's golden gem was also discovered 10 miles from my house, but in a different direction. Good apple discovery area - I found my own variety I'll start to circulate soon.

    1. Thanks for the added information. I like knowing the history, and the name that I should be using :-)

  2. This is good size red flesh apple. I may think about switching from Pink Pearl to this one. Pink Pearl have remained very small and not a strong grower.
